『東氏館跡庭園』の大きな特徴は、池を配置した中世（鎌倉～戦国時代）武家屋敷庭園の姿をそのまま残していることです。同じ時代に造られた庭園の多くは、数百年の間に改修されたり、農地へと変容されています。しかし『東氏館跡庭園』は、造園当初の原型を留めているとても貴重な存在であり、学術的に非常に価値の高い遺構として評価されています。池の中央に中島が浮かび、正面からは鶴の姿に、東側からは亀に見えるように、巧みに石が組まれています。篠脇山から池へと注ぐ取水路は、池東側の建物をぐるりと囲んでいました。『東氏』は、美しい水景色を眺めながら和歌を詠み、優雅な日々を送ったのでしょう。
The major features of the Tō Clan Manor Ruins and Garden are the remains of the medieval (Kamakura to Sengoku period (1185-1590)) samurai residence, garden, and pond. Most gardens constructed in the same period were converted into farmland hundreds of years ago. However, the Tō Clan Manor Ruins and Garden are of great importance as a location that retains some original features of the early landscape architecture. It is highly regarded in academic contexts as a valuable archaeological site. A central island sits in the middle of the pond. The rocks have been cleverly arranged so that from the eastern side they look like a crane and a turtle. The intake channel running from Mt. Shinowaki to the pond circles the building on the eastern side of the pond. The Tō Clan must have spent elegant days composing waka poetry while gazing at the beautiful water scenery.
