The "Tō Clan Manor Ruins and Garden" features the remnants of samurai residences from the Middle Ages (Kamakura period to Muromachi period, 1185-1573). One of the main attractions is the remnant of an artificial pond in the garden. There are few examples of artificial ponds from that time period that are still intact, so it is recognized as being a highly valuable cultural asset, and it was designated a national place of scenic beauty in 1987. On the island that sits in the middle of the pond, stones are skillfully placed to look like cranes and turtles, a showing you a glimpse of the elegant way of life of that period.
